I had the privilege of attending a celebratory lunch hosted by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Cllr Naveeda Ikram – Britain’s first female Muslim Lord Mayor.
The event was also the presentation of the awards for Bradford Women of the Year 2012 and the Kirkgate Shopping Centre Bradford where I work sponsored the Woman of Courage Award.
The winner was the wonderful Maralyn Adey who campaigns tirelessly for disability rights. Her son Kristian and husband Alvin were there to see her pick up her award and they were both glowing with pride.
As you can see from the pictures it was a wonderfully happy occasion with everyone there to celebrate the amazing women who had won the awards.
Sadly I left my programme at work so I don’t have the list in front of me of everything that Maralyn is doing in her work for disability issues – although I do have the details for her new Charity Venture Learning Disability Hospital Support . She is on a mission right now to raise the £5000 necessary to register with the Charity’s Commission – thats the amount that the Charity needs in its bank account before the Commission will even consider the application! So if you can donate or know of anyone who could sponsor the charity please do help – every penny counts!
So Maralyn, this ones for you – Many Congratulations on a well deserved win!
and to celebrate International Women’s Day I am giving away this gorgeous quickpage designed by Ann Flynn
There is also a lovely matching single feature photo quickpage that you can pick up for 99 cents
Maralyn, I promise to add all your achievements just as soon as I get home from work tonight
In the meantime ladies, have a wonderful day and happy scrapping
